In addition to the options of in-person voting on election day or early in-person voting at one of the two locations, qualified electors may also request an absentee ballot online at voteidaho.gov. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is 5:00 p.m. on May 10. Absentee ballots must be returned to the Canyon County Elections Office no later than 8:00 p.m. on May 21.

Voter registration confirmation. Voters can check their voter registration status at voteidaho.gov. The public can still register to vote on election day with valid proof of identification and address verification, but keep in mind that only registered voters may request an absentee ballot. The preregistration deadline is April 26 to register to vote online.

Election worker information. The Canyon County Election Office is still processing interested parties wishing to assist as poll workers. While the office may fill the required slots with the existing applicant pool, interested parties are being added to an on-call list as potential reservists. Interested parties should visit https://voteidaho.gov/become-an-election-worker/.

Voter look-up tool. The Canyon County Election website, https://elections.canyoncounty.id.gov, has helpful resources and information, including a lookup tool to identify your particular precinct. It is being worked on to provide this updated voting location information, but you can identify your voting location by finding your precinct and referencing the attached list of voting locations for all precincts throughout the county. Sample ballots will also be added to the website shortly. Stay tuned for continued updates as election day draws nearer.

Securing 45 locations from partnering venues is one thing, but this isn’t possible without the additional interest of hundreds of members in our community willing to work on election day. This collective effort will help shorten average commutes, as well as relieve lines, over the alternative of combining more voters into fewer locations. Many thanks to the Caldwell Elks Lodge and Hispanic Cultural Center for their willingness to allow for two weeks of continuous use for early voting. We stand ready to serve with absentee requests, early voting, and on election day.”

There has been an increase in inquiries from Canyon County residents seeking information about the upcoming Idaho Republican Presidential Caucus on March 2 and the Primary Elections on May 21. In order to help educate and inform Canyon County residents, please note the following information:

The March 2 Idaho Republican Presidential Caucus is being administered by the Idaho Republican Party. It isn’t being administered by the election office. As for caucus locations in Canyon County, as administered by the Republican Party, the Idaho GOP has a resource here: Canyon County | Idaho Caucus (idahorepublicancaucus.com)

If you are unsure what precinct you reside in, you can use this tool: Search for My Voter Record (voteidaho.gov). This Voter Record tool will confirm if you are registered to vote, what affiliation, and also provide information on what precinct you reside in.

Please note that partisan legislative and countywide primary elections, along with other items, will be on the May 21 Primary Election. The Primary Election is administered by the county election office. To be clear, the Republican presidential candidates will not be on the May 21 Primary Election ballot. Additionally, the Idaho Democrat Party is planning on holding their Presidential Caucus on May 23 (2024 Presidential Nomination Caucus | Idaho Democratic Party (idahodems.org)). Please note that the Idaho Democrat Presidential caucus is being administered by the Idaho Democrat Party and subject to their rules and logistical arrangements.

Primary Election poll locations will differ in most cases from the caucus locations of both the Idaho GOP and Idaho Democrat presidential caucuses. Don’t assume that your normal poll location is the same location for the caucuses, nor assume that your caucus location will be the same poll location for the May 21 Primary Election. If you plan to participate in either the Republican or Democrat Caucus, it’s important you check the Idaho GOP or Idaho Democrat website to confirm logistics. As for poll locations for the May 21 Primary Election, we are finalizing logistics and will release information once it’s confirmed. We will also update the Canyon County voter lookup tool once locations are confirmed so that you can both find your primary poll location and a sample ballot for reference.
