BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SELECTS JESS URRESTI AS COUNTY CLERK

CALDWELL, ID — In a unanimous decision, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has selected Jess Urresti, currently serving as Deputy Clerk and Director of Court Operations, to be appointed as the new Canyon County Clerk. This historic appointment follows the election of current Clerk Rick Hogaboam as Mayor of the City of Nampa, with his term beginning January 5, 2026.

Jess Urresti emerged as the Canyon County Republican Central Committee’s (CCRCC) top recommendation, alongside nominee Daniel Lee. In a letter to the Board, CCRCC Chair Chris Trakel stated, “The CCRCC overwhelmingly believes Mr. Urresti is the most qualified and best individual for the role of Canyon County Clerk.” Urresti received 29 votes from the committee, while Lee received zero.

Clerk Hogaboam voiced strong support for Urresti, noting that he provided a letter of recommendation along with support from Prosecuting Attorney Chris Boyd, Trial Court Administrator Benita Miller, Judge Bever, and others present at the meeting. “Mr. Urresti has demonstrated his ability to take on this role during his time as Chief Deputy, Hogaboam said. He also emphasized the size and complexity of the Clerk’s Office, which is the second-largest elected office in Canyon County after the Sheriff’s Office. Hogaboam expressed deep gratitude for Urresti’s support, stating that he would not have been as successful during his nearly two years as Clerk without Urresti’s leadership and dedication. Commissioner Leslie Van Beek highlighted Urresti’s extensive experience, stating, This is a great win for Canyon County.”

Urresti expressed his appreciation for the trust placed in him, crediting Clerk Hogaboam’s mentorship and leadership for his success. “I would not be here today without his guidance,” Urresti said. Chief Operating Officer Greg Rast also praised the appointment, stating that he looks forward to working with Urresti and believes there was no better candidate put forward through the nomination process. Rast noted that Urresti has built strong working relationships throughout the Clerk’s Office and across the County during his tenure as Director of Court Operations.

During deliberations, BOCC Chairman Brad Holton stated that he found “overwhelming evidence in support of this nomination and expressed strong confidence in Urresti’s ability to lead the Clerk’s Office moving forward. The unanimous vote by the Board underscores the Commissioners’ confidence in Urresti’s qualifications and leadership. Jess Urresti will be sworn in on January 5th. The ceremony is open to the public.
