How do I report a stray or loose animal?
If you encounter a stray or loose animal, it is important to act quickly and responsibly. First, ensure your safety and the safety of others around you. Then, contact the appropriate emergency dispatch number for your area.
For Caldwell residents, call 208-454-7531, and for Nampa residents, dial 208-465-2257. When reporting, provide as much detail as possible, including the animal’s location, description, and any potential hazards. Your prompt action can help protect both the animal and the community.
I found a stray animal—what are my next steps?
First and foremost, ensure your safety and the safety of others around you. If the animal appears injured or aggressive, do not approach it and contact emergency dispatch immediately. If the animal seems calm, try to assess its condition and look for any identification tags. You can also provide food or water to help it feel more comfortable while you wait for assistance.
Consider reaching out to local animal shelters or rescue organizations for guidance on the best course of action. Remember, your compassion can make a significant difference in the life of a stray animal.
What if I have a wildlife issue, like raccoons or bats on my property?
If you encounter wildlife such as raccoons or bats on your property it is important to address the situation promptly and safely. These animals can pose significant risks to your home and health. First ensure that you do not approach or attempt to handle them yourself.
Instead, contact local wildlife control or emergency dispatch for assistance. They can provide guidance on how to safely remove the animals and prevent future issues. Additionally, consider securing your property by sealing entry points and removing attractants like food or shelter.
How can I adopt a pet from the shelter?
Browse available animals on the WVHS website, then visit the shelter during adoption hours – 11:00am-5:00pm Mon-Wed., Fri-Sun.
