In a unanimous decision, the Canyon County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has elected Rick Hogaboam as the newly appointed County Clerk.

This historic appointment comes after a special resolution, during which the BOCC carefully considered nominations provided by the Canyon County Republican Central Committee (CCRCC).

Stewart Hyndman, Chairman of the CCRCC, presented the recommendations for the County Clerk position on Thursday evening. Rick Hogaboam emerged as the top recommendation, showcasing his strong candidacy alongside nominees Steve Almer and Jo Dee Arnold.

In a letter, Hyndman stated, “I am confident that any of these nominees will serve with distinction, promoting our shared values and ensuring the continued success of the Canyon County Clerk’s office. Your careful consideration of these nominations is crucial, and I am thankful for your dedication to our community.”

During the special session, Commissioner Leslie Van Beek highlighted the exceptional nature of the selection process, stating, “We felt like there was one clear recommendation and candidate who was head and shoulders above the rest in that selection process. And that’s not a discount to the candidates who ran.”

Emphasizing the significance of the County Clerk’s role, Van Beek added, “This is a huge office that’s multifaceted that will need strong leadership and tenure and expertise to lead Canyon County to the next level.”

Commissioner Zach Brooks echoed Van Beek’s sentiments and, for the record, affirmed that Rick Hogaboam was the right person for the position.

The unanimous support from the commissioners underscores their confidence in Hogaboam’s ability to effectively lead the Canyon County Clerk’s office.

Chairman Brad Holton explained that this appointment comes as a unique instance, and the first since 2017 when Brian Stender was appointed to the office of Assessor.

Hogaboam will be sworn in Saturday, February 3, at 2 p.m. in the Canyon County Administration Building and the public is welcome to attend the ceremony.

Hogaboam expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him, stating, “I am honored and ready to take on the responsibilities of County Clerk. I look forward to serving the community and upholding the values that make Canyon County exceptional. I wish Chris Yamamoto the best in his retirement and pray God’s blessing over Canyon County.”
