August 7, 2024—Bryan Taylor, Canyon County Prosecutor, announced that Ryann Ashley Holland, age 29, of Caldwell, was sentenced yesterday by the Honorable Gene A. Petty on five felony counts of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence (DUI).
Judge Petty sentenced Holland to ten (10) years fixed, followed by 15 years indeterminate, for a total unified sentence of 25 years in prison. Judge Petty also ordered Holland’s driver’s license to be suspended for five (5) years following her release, and Holland was ordered to pay $1,800 in court fines.
Holland was arrested by the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office in December 2023 following a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Orchard Ave and N Fitzwilliam St in Nampa that seriously injured one adult and four juveniles. Courts records show that Holland, who had a blood alcohol content of .271, was breastfeeding her six-month-old baby and had a two-year-old child in the back seat when the crash occurred. Court records show that just before causing the three-vehicle accident, Holland was seen on traffic cameras driving erratically through Nampa, where she crashed into another vehicle near N Canyon St and 2nd St S in a hit-and-run incident.
“The sheer recklessness shown by the defendant in this case warrants the lengthy sentence that Judge Petty handed down,” said Prosecutor Bryan Taylor. “Her complete lack of regard for her children’s safety and the other drivers is almost beyond belief. I’m hopeful she uses her time in prison to think about the mistakes that she made and get the help she needs.”
Sheriff Kieran Donahue added, “One of the most important responsibilities as a parent is to protect your children from danger. It’s also a responsibility that we in the law enforcement profession take very seriously. This defendant clearly failed to do that by purposely putting her children and others in harm’s way, and we are all fortunate her behavior and actions didn’t result in a more tragic outcome.”
