CANYON COUNTY JUVENILE PROBATION GED PROGRAM EMPOWERS YOUTH THROUGH CWI PARTNERSHIP
CALDWELL, ID – Canyon County is leading innovation and education through its partnership with the College of Western Idaho (CWI). As the only program of its kind in the state, the Canyon County Juvenile Probation Program provides at-risk students with not only needed educational opportunities but also life changing support networks.
The program started back in 2017 and since then, has helped students reach major milestones, including high school diplomas and career advancements. With the support of grants such as the Idaho Launch program, students have been empowered and encouraged to pursue a wide range of paths, from becoming nail technicians and firefighters to starting their own businesses.
“I think this program works because we understand that students don’t just need an education, they need to be in an environment where people value them and see their potential. Our role is not just to provide educational services, but also to build meaningful relationships,” said longtime tutor Lynda Cartwright. Through this support, students gain the confidence and skills needed to build brighter paths for themselves and their communities.
The program’s success comes from strong community connections and ongoing engagement. Tutors stay in touch weekly with students during school breaks, ensuring ongoing motivation and achievement despite life’s challenges. The program extends support beyond probation by maintaining connections that inspire and uplift youth for years.
“Our commitment is to provide every student with not just an education, but also the encouragement and care to reach their full potential,” Lynda added.
Canyon County remains dedicated to enhancing educational access and positive outcomes for all youth. Community members are encouraged to learn more about this one of a kind program and how it’s helping shape the county’s future.
