CANYON COUNTY, ID — The Melba Valley Museum building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and will hold a celebration and plaque unveiling on Saturday, May 4 at 11:00 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The NRHP recognizes buildings and structures for their historic value, in this case for the building’s importance to Melba history as one of the oldest extant buildings in the community. Built in 1919 as the Gardner Hotel, the building is most-closely associated with the International Order of Oddfellows (IOOF) and its allied women’s organization – Rebekahs – who occupied the structure for nearly 70 years before donating it to the Melba Valley Historical Society in 2013 for use as a local history museum.

Nomination of the building is due, in part, to a grant from the Canyon County Historic Preservation program.

The museum is open Saturdays, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., May through October, and is located at 310 Carrie Rex (next to the Melba Post Office).
