On July 5, 2024, at approximately 5:00  p.m., the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to a report of an accidental shooting at the George Nourse Gun Range south of Nampa. When CCSO deputies arrived on scene, they located a 26-year-old male who had been shot in the abdomen by a rifle that accidentally discharged when another male was attempting to unload it. Life-saving measures were performed on the victim, but he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as Evan Michael Chase of Nampa.

“This was a tragic incident that sadly took the life of a young man over this past Fourth of July weekend,” said Sheriff Kieran Donahue. “My heart goes out to his family and friends. Unfortunately, it also serves as a grim reminder of how deadly firearms can be and why they should always be handled with the utmost care.”
