The Canyon County Board of Community Guardians (BOCG) is currently seeking help from volunteers and community members to support their mission as the demand for their services continues to grow. This program aims to safeguard and enhance the well-being of vulnerable adults in the community.

In the face of unexpected change and an increasing demand for services, the BOCG has remained focused on its mission to provide essential care and support to those who need it most.

“Despite challenges and losses in volunteer guardians, our team has stayed dedicated, making sure our clients get the care they deserve,” said Yvonne Baker, Director of Indigent Services and Coordinator for the Board of Community Guardians.

“Our goal has always been to protect and improve the well-being of our clients,” Baker said. “But we need more support to meet the growing demand for our services.”

Baker identified three areas where help is urgently needed for the BOCG:

Volunteer Guardians: They are actively looking for caring individuals who are willing to serve as volunteer guardians for vulnerable adults. Volunteer guardians play a crucial role in meeting the personal, emotional, and medical needs of wards (or clients in the program). Those volunteers offer companionship and support when it’s most needed.

Board Members: There is also a need for more volunteers to serve as board members. Board members play another key role in guiding the program, and ensuring it remains responsive to the community’s needs.

Financial Support: Alongside volunteers, financial support is crucial for sustaining BOCG operations and reaching more people in need. Donations and funding opportunities are essential for providing crucial services to vulnerable adults in the local community.

“We’re facing significant challenges, but we also have the chance to make a real difference in the lives of those we serve,” Baker said. “With the support of volunteers and community members, we can continue our mission and ensure every vulnerable adult in Canyon County gets the care they deserve.”
